my first foray into parametric design systems, the shāpu moc is a heavy-metal inspired, visually dangerous take on the moccasin.

i designed the shāpu moc with the otherwise throw-a-way thought, “what if a sandal could look terrifying, but instead be wildly comfortable?” how can a shoe embody juxtaposition? it would look sharp to the touch, but be soft and malleable.

i imagined the shāpu moc as looking chunky, while still streamlined, start to finish; as looking organic while still highly engineered.

i saw to deliver an outsider’s perspective to a style of shoe pioneered by crocs and its competitors—here’s the underground version. picture a pair of shoes so intentionally garish that your mother hates them, but she can’t stop wearing them; like a 90’s rock video where a business man love-hates a guitar riff so much he literally explodes, but it’s a spiked collar for your feet.
